Based on the theme of "Observing Earth and Saga from outer space, and observing Earth and outer space from Saga”, Saga Prefecture Space & Science Museum is a place where people can have fun with science through participation and experience. Enveloped in the greenery of Takeo Onsen Health Resort Village, the building, which is located by Lake Ikenouchi, was designed to resemble a spaceship awaiting takeoff from a space station. The museum has 5 exhibit sections.

First Visit to Science Museum
Family and I visited the space museum on a Friday. It was great because there weren't too many people there. The drive was fairly easy from Hario, and using the expressway was 820 YEN both ways. Bypassing the expressway saves on the tolls, but adds about 20 minutes to the journey. My 2-year-old had a great time, my 10-year-old a so-so time, and my 13-year-old had a good time. The museum has three floors and has a lot of activities for the younger ones. There is a small dinosaur exhibit, some aquatic life (fish, salamanders, and turtles). There is a space exhibit on the top floor, and some science activities on the second. You can get everything done in about three hours, and due to the museum's proximity to other locations, you can also visit Mifuneyama, YouMe, and the Takeo City Library. We only briefly got a chance to check out the YouMe, but there is a Daiso, and the prices seem to be a little lower than Aeon. Overall, great day-trip, and an activity to do at least once while in Sasebo.
Pros and Cons
35 to 40 minute drive from Hario
Meal for 5 costs about 5,200 YEN...best to bring lunch...or go to another restaurant
